Play Something New Double Feature! Gorinto & Shikoku

Play Something New with us every Friday night!

Our Play Something New board game demo nights are a perfect opportunity to relax, learn a new game, and get involved with our ever-growing board gaming community! This week, we will be featuring TWO games!

Here’s How It Works:

Sign up for a Demo: We will have several tables of game demos for our Featured Games running from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Demo experiences will last around 30 minutes and will go over the basic rules of the game and several turns of play. Games may be limited to a certain number of turns/ rounds to allow for everyone to get a seat at a demo throughout the night. Demo sign-ups will cut off at 8:30.

Sale and Raffles: Our Featured Games will be on sale for 20% off during the event for anyone who participated in a demo! In addition, some open copies of the games will be raffled off once the demos are finished for the night.

Open Board Gaming: In addition to the demo…..hang out and play! Tables will be available for open board gaming until our Game Room closes up (around 9:45 pm). Bring some games with you to play or get in on a game with other board gamers. In addition, we will have some open copies of popular board games on hand to try during the event!

Cost: The cost for the event is a $10 “Credit Swap” (you’ll get $10 in store credit back with your entry!)

Tonight’s Featured Games: Gorinto & Shikoku

Gorinto Cover Artwork

"In Gorinto, the five elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void—call to you with their distinct energies and patterns. Earth burrows steadily, Water spreads and adapts, Fire leaps upward, Wind dances unpredictably, and Void weaves subtly through the spaces in between. Mastering each one is key to unlocking true balance.

Inspired by the ancient Japanese gorintō—a sacred pagoda built from five symbolic shapes representing the elements—this game is more than a contest of points; it is a journey toward understanding.

Players take turns choosing elemental tiles from the Path and placing them into the Mountain, building influence and knowledge through clever selection and strategic foresight. Each element you claim changes the way you’ll collect others, shaping your options and your destiny with every move.

At the end of each round, players earn points based on shifting goals revealed at the game’s start, and final wisdom is measured by your elemental harmony. The one who best aligns with the forces of nature will rise above the rest." -BGG

Shikoku Cover Artwork

"Shikoku is the smallest of the four main islands of Japan and famous for its 88 Buddhist temples pilgrimage. It is said people have a year of misfortune and woes — at the age of 42 for men and 33 for women — so to be cured and avoid bad luck, pilgrims of those ages attend the temple 23 called Yakuōji and place of the Buddha of healing, Yakushi Nyorai. In every step, pilgrims leave a coin while singing the Yakushi mantra, which favors them with spiritual healing and prevents misfortune.

In Shikoku, players play the role of pilgrims who are going up the 33 steps while singing mantras until they reach the pagoda. However, the "Middle Path" seeks moderation, not the extremes: To be the first one, or the last, is not welcome! The winners will be those who are second or next to last on the steps when a player reaches the top." - BGG
